About the AFDR Top 200 List
The AFDR Top 200 List is provided in partnership with Dot Foods, the industry-leading foodservice re-distributor, that provides products from 500 different manufacturers to more than 3,300 foodservice distributors. The list is compiled quarterly and represents the most-sold equipment, supplies, dry, refrigerated and frozen commodity and nationally branded foodservice products provided through Dot Foods to its distributor partners who, in turn, sell to hundreds of thousands of operator customers.
AFDR adds links to additional information and training from manufacturers that have products honored on the Top 200 list. The list provides a fast, easy-to-use resource for DSRs who want to increase quickly their product knowledge about some of the most popular foodservice products in the country.
There are some items they may not be accurately represented on this list, such as french fries that are generally ordered directly by distributors because they are sold in such high volumes. Milk and other products commonly sourced locally aren't represented. And private label products don't appear here.
But the list is an excellent guide to products that have proven to be popular among operators on a national scale.
The list is ranked by number of cases sold during the quarter.
What are the characteristics of a best seller?
- Products that offer great quality.
- Considered a good value for the price.
- Rarely are out of stock in a distributor's warehouse.
- These first three characteristics are the "price of admission," however. The fourth defining trait is widespread knowledge about the product among DSRs, who influence operators' buying decisions more than anything else.
For new DSRs in particular, the list provides a starting point on products they should get to know. The odds are they'll be selling many of these products from Day 1.
